Representatives for Hayden Panettiere have publicly rebuked the wave of gossip and speculation that followed the actress’ death on August 16 in Greenville, South Carolina. In a statement shared with US Weekly, the spokesperson said the outpouring of rumors from people “who were not close to Hayden” is disrespectful to her memory and to the family members who are grieving.
Call for factual information
The statement urged anyone with legitimate information to contact law enforcement rather than share unverified theories on social media. “If you have legitimate information that could be helpful, please contact law enforcement rather than turning to social media to speculate publicly about something you do not fully understand,” the representative wrote.
Authorities have confirmed that the Greenville County Coroner’s Office performed a preliminary autopsy and found no signs of trauma that contributed to Panettiere’s death. Nevertheless, the case remains open, and the Drug Enforcement Administration has joined the investigation.
Details from the police report
According to a police report obtained by Fox News Digital, Brian Hickerson—who had an on‑and‑off relationship with Panettiere—was present at the apartment when she was found unresponsive. Hickerson and his brother, Zach, called 911, and officers later executed a search warrant at the residence. The report notes that Zach appeared “very emotional” while paramedics attempted resuscitation, whereas Hickerson did not become emotional until the actress was declared deceased.
Officers also recovered a bag of medication that Panettiere had allegedly been taking, according to the report. Hickerson reportedly traveled with Panettiere from Los Angeles the day before she was found, and the two had briefly broken up in 2022 before rekindling their relationship in 2023.
Family cooperation and ongoing investigation
Panettiere’s representatives emphasized that those closest to the actress are fully cooperating with investigators. “There is much more to this story than what is currently being discussed publicly, and those closest to Hayden are actively cooperating with the ongoing investigation to help ensure that the truth comes to light and that justice is properly served,” the statement concluded.
Fox News Digital reached out for comment, but the family’s legal team declined further remarks at this time.
