A jury in a Palm Beach County courtroom decided the fate of a man connected to a deadly 2021 shooting in West Palm Beach. Larry Darnell Young Jr., 30, was found guilty of manslaughter, but not guilty of three attempted manslaughter charges.
Background of the Case
According to court documents, on December 10, 2021, Young Jr. was involved in an argument that resulted in the death of Tamia Johnson, a 16-year-old girl who was an innocent bystander. Three other people were also injured in the incident.
Young Jr. was previously found guilty of opening fire during the argument and was sentenced to 30 years in state prison for the death of Johnson, along with five years each for the three attempted manslaughter charges. However, his conviction was overturned by a court of appeals after it was ruled that the Palm Beach County court denied Young’s motion to suppress evidence obtained without a warrant.
The retrial began on Monday, June 22, and the jury delivered its verdict on June 29. Young Jr. is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday, July 10.
