Over 50,000 Tickets Unsold for England Soccer Match in Tampa

As the excitement of the UEFA Champions League final filled a local Tampa pub, soccer fans are finding themselves hesitant to attend the upcoming World Cup warm-up match between England and New Zealand at Raymond James Stadium. With more than 50,000 seats still available, high ticket prices are a significant barrier for many.

Ticket Sales Struggle

According to reports, only about 13,000 tickets have been sold for the exhibition game. The cheapest seats are listed at approximately $74, a price that many fans find difficult to justify for a friendly match. Local fan Courtney Stewart expressed her decision to save money for a World Cup game in Miami instead.

Eyuel Yimer, who purchased a $120 ticket, noted a lack of awareness about the game, stating, “They have got to work on advertising it more.” Many of his friends were unaware of the match, highlighting a gap in marketing efforts.

Potential Solutions

Officials have not confirmed any plans to lower ticket prices or increase marketing efforts, leaving the future of the event’s financial success uncertain. However, Adam Leventhal, a senior writer at The Athletic, suggests that dynamic pricing strategies could lead to a drop in prices if seats remain unsold as the match date approaches.

Leventhal explained, “There is dynamic pricing and dynamic pricing means getting bums on seats. That means dropping prices late if those seats are still available.”

Looking Ahead

The match is scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m. next Saturday, and fans are encouraged to stay informed about potential changes in ticket pricing. As the event draws closer, organizers may need to take decisive action to ensure a successful turnout.
