Fans gathered at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill in Oklahoma City to cheer on the Oklahoma Sooners baseball team as they won the national championship over North Carolina.
Watch Party at Toby Keith’s
The University of Oklahoma approached the restaurant last week to host the watch party during the Sooners’ College World Series run. Chris Conner, general manager of Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill, said, ‘Absolutely, bring all the Sooners out.’ The excitement grew as Oklahoma’s postseason run continued, turning an unexpected journey into one of college baseball’s biggest stories.
Current and former Oklahoma athletes joined fans at the watch party to rally behind the team. Rodney Anderson, a former Oklahoma athlete and member of One Oklahoma, said, ‘Being a former athlete here, I got really invested in this community that is the Sooner fan base. Anytime I can come back and help grow something like this where it can bring more Sooner fans together to impact a great baseball team that’s fighting for a national championship right now, I’m all about that.’
The family atmosphere extends across the athletic department, with coaches and athletes from various sports traveling to Omaha to support the baseball team, while others gathered in Oklahoma City to do the same. David Stone, an OU defensive lineman, said, ‘Being able to watch them on TV, I hope they can feel our support and our love right now. We’ve been cheering hard for them!’
