The School District of Osceola County has opened the West Osceola Transportation and Operations Facility in Poinciana, just days before the start of the new school year. This facility is designed to provide better services for employees and families on the west side of the county.

The new facility will help save on fuel, get students home quicker, and reduce the number of bus routes. It will also make employees happier with its new amenities. Superintendent Mark Shanoff stated, “You’re not going to have as many buses on the road. We’re not going to have buses zigzagging across the district.”
Transportation Director Orville Watson added, “We’re hoping that as we go into Monday, that will really help us to mitigate the traffic and the delays that we experienced going through here.” The project took 18 months to complete and can accommodate 100 buses and routes, with the capacity to hold up to 200 buses if needed.
The facility also houses an off-site data center to ensure system redundancy and will include an employee health center, set to open by October 1. Inside the facility, there are training areas, break rooms, and maintenance areas, allowing bus repairs to be done on-site.
