An Orlando restaurant, Cuba Libre, has introduced a new menu catering to customers taking GLP-1 medications for weight loss. The “GLP-Wonderful” menu features dishes with high protein and fiber content, designed to meet the dietary needs of individuals on these medications.
Menu Details
The menu includes a leaner version of the restaurant’s popular grilled chicken dish, as well as a slow-cooked shredded beef in a tomato-based sauce. Other options include braised and shredded brisket, sauteed shrimp with grape tomatoes, and a pan-seared salmon filet. All dishes are priced about 25-30 percent cheaper than the full-sized entrées and are listed at 460 calories or less.
Chef Angel Roque, who helped curate the menu, explained that the dishes are designed to be high in protein and fiber to help preserve muscle mass and combat constipation, common side effects of GLP-1 medications. A weight loss specialist, Dr. Charlie Seltzer, also contributed to the menu’s development.
National Trend
The introduction of this specialized menu reflects a growing trend in the restaurant industry, with national chains such as Chipotle, Shake Shack, and Smoothie King also making menu changes to accommodate customers taking GLP-1 medications.
