Oregon Ducks rally past Boise State 34-27 in season‑opening victory

In a thrilling season‑opener on Saturday, the No. 2 Oregon Ducks rebounded from an early stumble to beat the Boise State Broncos 34‑27 at Autzen Stadium. The Ducks’ quarterback, Dante Moore, delivered a standout performance, completing 378 passing yards and three touchdown passes.

Key moments

After both teams exchanged field goals to tie the game at 27 in the fourth quarter, senior wide receiver Dakorien Moore caught a 62‑yard pass for a go‑ahead touchdown with 7:51 remaining. The play sealed the win for Oregon and highlighted the Ducks’ ability to capitalize on big‑play opportunities.

Oregon’s offense amassed 497 total yards, dwarfing Boise State’s 274 yards. However, the Ducks were penalized ten times for 90 yards, a factor that coach Dan Lanning said cost them in “critical situations.” Lanning added that Boise State excelled on special teams and fourth‑down attempts, giving the Broncos several chances to stay in the game.

Player highlights

Dante Moore, who chose to remain at Oregon after a 3,565‑yard, 30‑touchdown season last year, was the offensive catalyst. He also connected with Jamari Johnson for a 27‑yard pass just before halftime, narrowing the deficit to 17‑14.

Boise State’s quarterback Maddux Madsen threw for 181 yards and three touchdowns, including a 13‑yard scoring pass to Cam Bates early in the game. Despite the loss, Madsen’s effort kept the Broncos competitive throughout.

Coaches’ perspectives

Coach Lanning praised his team’s resilience, noting that “adversity is part of the game; it’s how we respond that matters.” He also emphasized the importance of learning from the game’s “critical situations” where the Broncos out‑performed the Ducks.

Broncos head coach Spencer Danielson expressed disappointment but refused to make excuses, saying, “You put your all into something, you put all the chips on the table, and you come up short — it hurts. We’ve got to find a way to be better.”

Conference context

Boise State joins the rebuilt Pac‑12 this season, alongside Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Texas State, and Utah State. Oregon, a former Big Ten member, returned to the Pac‑12 after two College Football Playoff appearances since joining the Big Ten in 2024.

While the Pac‑12 is no longer a Power‑Five conference, its teams remain eligible for the College Football Playoff as part of the Group of Six.

Looking ahead

Oregon will travel to Oklahoma State for its next matchup, while Boise State hosts Memphis next Saturday. Both programs will look to build on the lessons learned from this closely contested opener.
