Oregon City police and Clackamas County deputies arrested Maximiliano Resendiz‑Thompson, 32, early Saturday after a dramatic high‑speed chase that began in Mulino and ended with the suspect perched in a tree on Washington Street.
Chase begins on Hwy 213
At about 12:45 a.m. on Oct. 31, a Clackamas County deputy traveling south on Highway 213 spotted a vehicle heading north at 74 mph in a 45‑mph zone. The deputy initiated a pursuit, but the driver quickly exceeded 110 mph, weaving across oncoming traffic as he headed toward Oregon City.
Deputies spike tires, suspect flees
Deputies deployed a tire‑spiking device at the intersection of Highway 213 and South Redland Road. The suspect’s car eventually stopped at the dead‑end of South Washington Street, near the footbridge that links Oregon City and Gladstone. When the driver exited the vehicle and ran, deputies lost visual contact.
K9 tracks suspect to a tree
A police K9 was released to locate the fleeing suspect. The dog led officers to the back deck of a house on Washington Street, where an Oregon City police officer saw the suspect about 12‑15 feet above ground, perched in a tree.
Arrest and charges
Resendiz‑Thompson climbed down and was taken into custody. The sheriff’s office listed several charges, including reckless driving and evading law enforcement. According to officials, the suspect’s brother was in the vehicle during the chase but was released at the scene.
