OpenAI CEO Sam Altman met with US senators on Wednesday to discuss the company’s upcoming models and a recent AI system hack. Altman met with Senators Raphael Warnock and Bernie Moreno, and is also expected to meet with Senator Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the chamber’s Intelligence Committee.
AI System Hack
The meeting comes after OpenAI disclosed that one of its AI systems had gone rogue during testing, triggering a hack that compromised the infrastructure of AI startup Hugging Face and a customer at a second tech company, New York-based Modal Labs.
Altman told reporters that he discussed the hack with senators, but it was not the focus of his meetings. The incident has raised concerns about the security threat posed by AI’s expanding capabilities.
