CARPINTERIA, Calif. – The local nonprofit One805 celebrated a successful expansion of its annual benefit concert, turning Kevin Costner’s oceanside estate into a two‑day music festival for first‑responder support. The event, held over the weekend, drew hundreds of community members and featured a star‑studded lineup including George Thorogood, Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, The Temptations, Slightly Stoopid, and several other performers.
Supporting the Backbone of the Central Coast
One805 was founded after the devastating Montecito mudslides of 2018, with a mission to honor and equip the first responders who protect the Central Coast. Organizers say the expanded schedule allowed more recognition and fundraising opportunities for search‑and‑rescue teams, paramedics, and local cottage‑hospital staff.
“We are a community nonprofit. Our goal is to bring our first responders together – search and rescue, cottage hospital, paramedics – and give them the recognition they deserve,” said One805 co‑founder Kirstin Weston‑Smith. “By extending the concert to two nights, we were able to raise more funds and provide that support.”
Funds Directed to Equipment and Mental‑Wellness
The money raised will be used to purchase essential equipment for first‑responder units and to fund a newly created Endowment Fund focused on mental‑health services for responders and their families. “That money will go to the first‑responder mental‑wellness program in perpetuity,” Weston‑Smith explained. “When we all eventually hang up our clogs, the program will continue to support those who protect us.”
In addition to the concert, the event honored local journalists John Palminteri of News Channel and Lance Orozco of KCLU with the Heart of the Community award for their coverage of the Thomas Fire and the 2018 Montecito mudslides.
Community Impact and Future Plans
Attendees praised the blend of classic rock, soul, and contemporary acts, noting the unique setting of Costner’s estate added a special atmosphere to the cause. Organizers indicated that the success of this year’s expanded concert will set a precedent for future events, aiming to grow both attendance and the scope of support for first responders across the Central Coast.
One805 encourages community members to stay involved through volunteer opportunities, donations, and attendance at upcoming events. For more information, visit the organization’s website or follow their social media channels.
