Madison, Wis. – A tragic traffic collision occurred early Tuesday morning on the 2000 block of North County Highway H in the Town of Center, resulting in one fatality. The Rock County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a passenger truck and a motorcycle collided head‑on just after 6:15 a.m.
Details of the crash
According to the sheriff’s investigation, the truck was being driven northbound by a 20‑year‑old resident of Janesville. The driver attempted to turn left into a driveway on the west side of the highway. At the same time, a 38‑year‑old motorcyclist from Orfordville was traveling southbound on the same road. The truck’s left‑turn maneuver placed it in the southbound lane, where it struck the oncoming motorcycle.
The impact was severe enough that the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The Rock County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s name at a later date. The truck driver escaped injury and remained at the scene, where he was cited for failure to yield the right of way while making the left turn that caused the fatal collision.
Law enforcement response
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the crash. Officers are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the left‑turn attempt and the actions of both drivers. No additional charges have been reported beyond the citation for the truck driver.
Community impact
Residents of the Town of Center and surrounding areas are reminded to exercise caution when making turns onto or across busy county highways, especially during early‑morning hours when visibility may be reduced. The sheriff’s office encourages motorists to obey traffic signals and yield signs to prevent similar tragedies.
