Oklahoma State Superintendent Lindel Fields is in his final semester as the state’s head of education. Fields, who took over the position after Ryan Walters stepped down, is not running for the job in Oklahoma’s upcoming election. Despite his impending departure, Gov. Kevin Stitt recently named Fields as the new education secretary.
State Question 844
Oklahomans will decide on State Question 844 when they cast their votes on August 25. The state question asks voters to add an amendment to the state constitution regarding how local governments are reimbursed for property tax breaks provided to manufacturers. The proposed state question does not create a new tax but focuses on how Oklahoma reimburses schools, counties, and other local governments when manufacturing companies receive a five-year property tax exemption.
Many educators want Oklahomans to vote against State Question 844. Deer Creek Superintendent Jason Perez discussed the issue on the latest edition of Oklahoma Chronicle with Evan Onstot.
