Local Response
Mayor Gorton stated that she is praying for the families impacted by the shooting and that the City of Lexington is utilizing its initiative, ONE Lexington, to organize a trauma support event. “Our community is coming together to pray for those who were wounded yesterday, and for the young man we lost and his family and friends,” Gorton said.
Rep. Barr also released a statement, saying his heart is with the victims, their families, and the Lexington community. “Praying for everyone affected by this heartbreaking tragedy,” Barr stated.
Lexington City Councilmember Tyler Morton, who oversees the city’s first district, called for the community to come together in the name of healing. “We cannot ignore the reality that our young people need help. They need someone to believe in them. They need opportunities, guidance, mentorship, stability, and hope,” Morton said.
