An Oklahoma social media creator, Sara Duffey, was found dead alongside her husband, Jeremiah Shawn Duffey, in an apparent murder-suicide, just days after she posted a viral video detailing allegations that he had abused a minor.
Investigation and Background
Local authorities discovered the bodies of Sara Duffey, 43, and Jeremiah Shawn Duffey, 48, inside a residence in suburban Tulsa on July 23. Both had sustained gunshot wounds. Investigators stated that evidence points to Jeremiah shooting his wife before taking his own life.
Court records show that on June 10, Sara sought a protective order to keep her husband away from their home in Collinsville, Oklahoma. On the same date, another woman filed a separate protective order against Jeremiah on behalf of her daughter in a Tulsa state court.
Legal filings reported that a fellow youth basketball coach had witnessed Jeremiah kissing and fondling the young girl. The girl later informed her mother that Jeremiah sent inappropriate text messages, invited her to a hotel room during a trip, and gave her cash in an effort to keep her quiet.
The allegations were reported to law enforcement in the neighboring city of Owasso. In her own protective order filing, Sara referenced the allegations and noted that her husband possessed a firearm, had threatened suicide, and had fled the area.
On July 11, Sara uploaded a video to her TikTok account, where she regularly shared content about fashion and parenting with thousands of followers. In the clip, she sat silently with a somber expression under text reading, “Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon to be ex husband who I just found out is a pedophile.” She added the caption, “I wish I was joking.”
Twelve days after the video was published, emergency dispatchers received an 11:15 p.m. 911 call from Sara’s residence. According to police statements, a woman was heard screaming before what sounded like a gunshot interrupted the call. A second emergency call came shortly after from a nearby house, where Sara’s young son had run to inform a neighbor that his stepfather had shot his mother.
Responding officers located the couple inside the home upon arrival. Police reported that the incident remains under active investigation, though current findings indicate a murder-suicide. Sara’s son was safely placed in the custody of an uninvolved parent.
