Edmond and Guthrie are set to host two of the nation’s largest youth rodeo competitions, bringing millions in economic impact to central Oklahoma. The National Junior High Finals Rodeo begins this Sunday at the Lazy E Arena and will kick off a 10-year run, followed by 10 years of the National High School Finals Rodeo.
Economic Impact
The two events are expected to bring in almost $24 million a year in economic impact, with the rodeo industry serving over 100,000 people annually in Oklahoma. State Senator Chuck Hall noted that Oklahoma’s readiness to welcome the influx of visitors was a key factor in securing the events.
The National Junior High Finals Rodeo will feature competitors from more than 40 states and six different countries, making it a significant event for the state. The Lazy E Arena was chosen for its central location, long-term partnership, and ability to host all events inside, immune from the weather.
Local Talent
The events are also expected to increase opportunities for local talent, with many people looking to move to Oklahoma due to the location. The Junior Finals will feature four competitors from each state and country, making it a highly competitive event.
