Oklahoma County raises bond to $250,000 for Jeff Asare amid multiple assault allegations

Oklahoma County officials have increased the bond for Jeff Asare to $250,000 following a series of alleged assaults that took place in Oklahoma City this month. Asare, 26, is currently housed at the Oklahoma County Detention Center and faces charges of assault with intent to commit a felony, kidnapping and sexual battery.

Timeline of incidents

According to the district attorney’s office, Asare was first arrested on August 1 after four unhoused women reported that he assaulted them near the intersection of Northwest 23rd Street and Classen Boulevard. Investigators were unable to locate the victims, and no charges were filed at that time, resulting in Asare’s release.

On August 6, two additional women reported that Asare groped them at Scissortail Park. The district attorney initially determined that the incident did not merit state‑level charges, and Asare was released again.

The most serious allegation occurred on August 12 when Oklahoma City firefighters witnessed Asare tackle a woman on a trail at Lake Hefner and attempt to rape her. After this encounter, the district attorney’s office filed charges for the August 6 and August 12 incidents.

Bond increase and upcoming court date

Asare’s bond was first raised to $150,000 and has now been set at $250,000. He is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. on September 17. The district attorney’s office continues to seek any additional victims who may have had contact with Asare, urging them to come forward.

Community response

The series of alleged attacks has raised concerns among local residents and advocacy groups focused on safety for unhoused individuals and women in public spaces. While the district attorney’s office has taken steps to pursue charges, community leaders are calling for increased resources for victim support and stronger enforcement of public‑safety measures in parks and trail areas.

Legal context

Under Oklahoma law, assault with intent to commit a felony, kidnapping and sexual battery are serious offenses that can result in significant prison time if convicted. The bond increase reflects the seriousness of the allegations and the district attorney’s determination to keep Asare detained pending trial.

Anyone with information about the incidents or who believes they may be a victim is encouraged to contact the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office.
