Families in Oklahoma City are taking advantage of tax-free weekend, filling parking lots at the OKC Outlets as they shop for back-to-school essentials.
Cars have filled the lots, with people parking on curbs, in the grass, and anywhere else they can safely fit their vehicles to avoid paying sales tax on qualifying purchases.
“It’s awesome. There’s a lot of discounts,” said a member of the Hernandez family. “I got plenty of clothes for my son; he’s going back to school. Also, my husband and I — they had some shoes.”
A member of the Barrett family said, “Great, so far so good, just getting the kids everything they need for school.”
“We have, we have. I’m not sure if my pocketbook would agree, but we’re doing alright,” said a member of the Williams family.
Tax-free weekend will continue through midnight Sunday, but not all items are tax-exempt. Clothing and footwear under $100 qualify for the exemption, while items like backpacks, notebooks, and pencils remain subject to sales tax.
