Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) is looking to fill 150 open positions and will hold a teacher hiring event on Tuesday at the Clara Luper Center from noon to 3 p.m.
Teacher Shortage in Oklahoma
The district is especially looking for science, special education, and early childhood teachers. The starting pay is $45,250 a year. OKCPS is open to alternative certification for people who didn’t go to school to be a teacher but would like to explore the profession and give back to their community.
Amber Brown, director of staffing for OKCPS, said the hiring season never really ends due to the competitive job market. The search for teachers started in February, but the actual hiring starts now.
