OKC Sees Endless Growth with New Sports Venues

Oklahoma City leaders met to discuss how major sports venue projects could enhance the city’s reputation and bring new opportunities. The city recently broke ground on a multipurpose stadium that will host soccer matches, concerts, and professional football games. The city is also building a new NBA arena in downtown.

New Venues, New Opportunities

According to Sue Hollenbeck, Oklahoma City executive manager of special projects, the next 10 years could open the door to endless growth. Hollenbeck stated, “There’s so many opportunities to consider once these venues are done… The pie for sports is endless to a certain degree.”

The Greater Oklahoma City Chamber said recent successes support big dreams for the future. Hosting Olympic events is just the next step for the city, with Hollenbeck saying, “Everything we’ve done so far is chapter number one. Chapter number two is the Olympics, and then it’s like, what is the rest of the country? And I think that’s what’s really exciting.”

Hollenbeck also emphasized that everyday Oklahomans can help grow the city’s reputation by showing tourists and visitors the meaning of the “Oklahoma Standard.”
