Body camera video shows an Oklahoma City officer helping a US citizen who was detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on Interstate 44.
Incident Details
Jesson Baez, the US citizen, said he was trying to call his coworker’s family to let them know what was happening after his coworker was detained by ICE. Baez then pulled over and was approached by an ICE agent, who told him he was under arrest. An Oklahoma City police officer arrived and took Baez into custody, but later released him after verifying his citizenship.
Baez expressed his frustration and concern about the situation, stating that he had done nothing wrong and was simply trying to help his coworker. The Oklahoma City Police Department confirmed that the officer was driving by and saw what was happening, and then stepped in to help.
The incident has raised questions about the actions of ICE agents and the importance of verifying an individual’s citizenship status before detaining them.
