A new PK-8 school is being built at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The $42.7 million project, funded by a federal grant from the Department of War, will serve military-connected students and families.

Replacing an Older School

The new school will replace the current Douglass Valley Elementary School, which is the oldest school in Academy District 20. The new facility will be able to accommodate more students and will offer a more modern learning environment.

According to Becky Allan, Deputy Superintendent and Chief Financial Officer of Academy District 20, the new school will provide a level of continuity and service that military members have not had in the past. The school will offer preschool through 8th grade, allowing students to stay on base for their entire education.

Construction on the new school is expected to take around 1.5 to 2 years. Current students will not be displaced and will continue to attend school at the current location until the new facility is completed.
