The letter warned lawmakers of a ‘deepening food security crisis.’ Recent data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture shows that SNAP participation has decreased by approximately 4.5 million people nationwide since the passage of the ‘Big, Beautiful Bill.’ The mayors argue that at a time when many Americans continue to face economic challenges, Congress should be working to expand opportunity for food security, not create new barriers to assistance.
