Oklahoma City animal control officials seized over 500 animals from a local home, leaving the city’s animal shelter over capacity. The animals, including 470 birds, 49 dogs, and one horse, were taken in as part of a drug trafficking investigation.
Shelter Seeking Adopters
The Oklahoma City Animal Shelter is now seeking adopters to help care for the influx of new animals. The shelter is hosting a ‘Name Your Price’ event to encourage people to adopt pets and free up space for the new arrivals.
‘We’re way over capacity,’ said a shelter spokesperson. ‘We’re reaching out to all of our partners to see how they can assist in this situation.’ The shelter is also limiting intake of new animals to process the seized animals.
The investigation that led to the animal seizure was not related to animal welfare, but rather a drug trafficking case. The animals were found to be in good condition, but there were simply too many of them.
The shelter is working to find new homes for the animals and is urging people to come forward and adopt. The ‘Name Your Price’ event is an effort to encourage people to adopt and help the shelter manage the large number of new animals.
