Single southbound lanes on the Buckman Bridge will close from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday as crews continue to replace the structure’s steel joints.
Impact on Traffic
The lanes will reopen in time for Monday’s rush hour, the Florida Department of Transportation said. Past work on the bridge has caused long backups into Jacksonville’s Westside and Mandarin areas, forcing drivers to take long detours to the Shands Bridge to the south or the Fuller Warren Bridge to the north.
Work on the $5.4 million project is expected to wrap up late this year. The Shands Bridge has also undergone FDOT shutdowns or single-lane closures in recent months, sometimes from Friday nights to Monday morning, causing detours to the Buckman Bridge in Mandarin or Memorial Bridge in Palatka — up to 80 miles depending on which side of the river the journey starts.
