The Humane Society of Central Oregon (HSCO) in Bend is inviting adopters to name their own dog adoption fee through June 30 as part of its ‘Summer of Love’ promotion. This initiative comes as the shelter’s kennels remain full, with 89 animals arriving in the 10 days leading up to June 26, while dog adoptions have slowed.

Adopters may choose any fee that works for them, ranging from $0 to the standard adoption fee or an additional contribution to support the care of other animals. Each dog adoption includes spay or neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a microchip, collar, identification tag, and leash. Adopters also receive a complimentary health exam at a participating local veterinary clinic, food to help their new pet transition home, and special offers from local pet businesses.
Amber Kostoff, executive director for the Humane Society of Central Oregon, highlighted the program’s impact. ‘Every dog who finds a home creates space for the next animal in our community who needs us,’ Kostoff said. ‘We hope this promotion encourages people who have been considering adoption to visit the shelter, meet our incredible dogs, and find their new best friend.’
