The Edmonton Oilers have named Mike Babcock as their new head coach. Babcock, 63, has a long history of coaching in the NHL, with a record of 700-418-164 and 19 ties over parts of 17 seasons.
Coaching Career
Babcock began his head coaching career with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks and has also coached the Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs. He led the Red Wings to a Stanley Cup in 2008 and has also won an Olympic gold medal, an IIHF World Championship, and a World Cup of Hockey title.
Earlier this month, the NHL Players’ Association asked the league to investigate Babcock’s time with the Columbus Blue Jackets before allowing the Oilers to move forward with his hiring. The NHL has since cleared Babcock to return to the bench.
