A 19-year-old Oak Park man was arrested after a standoff outside his home in the 5800 block of Hickory Drive on July 7. Deputies were dispatched to the scene after a report of a man brandishing a semi-automatic rifle.
Incident Details
According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, two men from Los Angeles were doing concrete work in front of the home when they had a brief interaction with the 19-year-old. The men had walked to their vehicle after the exchange when the 19-year-old exited the home, pulled a semi-automatic rifle from his waistband, and pointed the weapon at the two men.
The 19-year-old ordered one of the men out of the vehicle at gunpoint and demanded the keys to the vehicle before unsuccessfully searching one of the men for the keys and returning to the home. Deputies attempted to contact the 19-year-old multiple times over an extended period of time before activating the Sheriff’s SWAT team.
While negotiators attempted to speak with the 19-year-old and SWAT Team members reinforced the perimeter, the 19-year-old broke a window, exited the home, and attempted to leave the area before being taken into custody without further incident.
A search warrant was executed at the home, and investigators found evidence that two rounds had been fired inside of the home, but did not penetrate the building’s walls.
