An Army veteran from upstate New York received a speeding ticket in Brooklyn, despite not being in the area. The ticket was meant for an NYPD car with the same license plate number as her special disabled military veteran license plate.
Mistaken Identity
Lidia Tschetter-Bennison, the veteran, received the ticket and immediately knew it was a mistake. She appealed the ticket, but was denied. She then reached out to 7 On Your Side for help.
After providing proof and appealing, Tschetter-Bennison was finally able to get the ticket refunded. The city’s Department of Finance refunded her $75.34, and her driving record was cleared.
Tschetter-Bennison’s story highlights the importance of double-checking information and ensuring that the right person is held accountable. In this case, the mistake was due to a shared license plate number between her car and an NYPD vehicle.
