Nvidia, a leader in AI chip technology, has donated a supercomputer to the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, California. The system, based on Nvidia’s GB300 ‘Grace Blackwell’ servers, is the company’s most advanced AI computer and will be used by NPS students and faculty to explore complex, real-world problems.
NPS and Nvidia Partnership
The donation is part of a partnership between Nvidia and the NPS Foundation, a nonprofit connected to the school. The NPS is operated by the US Navy and offers masters and doctoral degrees in fields such as computer science and aerospace engineering, with an emphasis on their applications in warfare.
According to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, ‘AI will be a backbone of America’s defense.’ The US and China are currently racing to deploy AI for military purposes, including developing targeting lists and drone warfare.
The supercomputer will be used to help NPS students and faculty understand the opportunities and responsibilities that come with advanced technologies. As Adm. Samuel J. Paparo, commander of US Pacific Command, stated, ‘As we modernize our technology, we must also modernize how we educate our leaders.’
