Notre Dame’s Alex Thomas Wins WIAA Division 1 Tennis Championship

In a remarkable display of skill and perseverance, Alex Thomas, a senior from Notre Dame, clinched the WIAA Division 1 singles tennis championship at Nielsen Tennis Stadium. Thomas, the top seed, defeated Alexander Bo of Middleton with a score of 6-2, 6-4 in the final match. This victory marks the culmination of an undefeated season for Thomas, who finished with a perfect 21-0 record.

Thomas’s journey to the championship has been impressive, with a history of strong performances in previous years. He placed third in Division 1 last year and was the runner-up in Division 2 in 2024. Thomas has been a consistent presence in the state tournament, qualifying four times and advancing to the second round in 2023.

Alexander Bo, also a senior and a four-time qualifier, finished as the runner-up for the second consecutive year. Bo’s consistent performance over the years includes a third-place finish in 2024 and advancement to the third round in 2023.

Division 1 Doubles Results

In the Division 1 doubles category, the duo of Jake Zheng and Ryker Koch from Brookfield East emerged victorious. The second-seeded pair defeated the top-seeded team of Miles Seder and Chase Larson from Menomonee Falls with a score of 6-2, 6-3. Zheng and Koch concluded their season with an impressive 26-4 record.

Miles Seder, who finished as runner-up for the second year in a row, reached the finals last season with a different partner, showcasing his consistent performance in doubles competition.

Division 2 Highlights

In Division 2 singles, sophomore Teddy Busateri from East Troy claimed the championship, defeating Oliver Milleman of Catholic Memorial 6-4, 6-0. Busateri, the top seed, improved his season record to 27-2. Milleman, a senior, finished as the runner-up for the second straight year.

The Division 2 doubles title was won by Finn Milleman and Brady Latus of Catholic Memorial. The top-seeded pair defeated Gianni Frausto and Cavin Baltus of Plymouth 6-2, 6-7 (5), 10-2, maintaining their perfect 23-0 record for the season.

The State Boys Team Tennis Tournament is set to take place on June 12-13 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, promising more exciting matches ahead.
