A fire broke out at a multi-family home on Ely Avenue in Norwalk on Saturday afternoon, displacing 13 occupants and injuring one firefighter. The fire started around 4:22 p.m., with heavy fire showing from the side and back of the home, and smoke on all floors.
Rescue Efforts
Before firefighters arrived, a 14-year-old female escaped the building by jumping from the second-floor window. She was transported to the hospital for evaluation and treatment. Her mother was helped out of the building by a neighbor using a ladder. Two dogs were also rescued, one from the first floor and another that escaped with the occupants.
Fire officials reported that two firefighters were evaluated for heat-related exhaustion, and one was taken to Norwalk Hospital for treatment. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced occupants. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
