Northwood High appoints longtime educator Dennis Spires as interim principal

Shreveport, La. — Caddo Parish Schools announced a smooth leadership transition at Northwood High School on Thursday, naming veteran educator Dennis Spires as interim principal following the retirement of Shannon Wall after 34 years of dedicated service.

Continuity and experience for the Falcon community

Wall, who spent the last nine years at the helm of Northwood, stepped down after a distinguished career that included roles across the district. The district’s superintendent, Keith Burton, praised Wall’s commitment to academic excellence and community involvement.

“Shannon’s legacy of high expectations and strong traditions will continue to guide us,” Burton said. “Dennis brings a deep familiarity with Northwood and the surrounding Blanchard area, making him uniquely qualified to lead our students through this next chapter.”

Spire’s roots run deep at Northwood

Before serving as principal of Donnie Bickham Middle School in 2025, Spires spent 12 years as an assistant principal at Northwood, where he built lasting relationships with students, teachers, and families. His return is being hailed as a return to the school’s core values of faith, family, and personal liberty.

“Northwood has always held a special place in my heart, and I am incredibly excited to return to a school that has meant so much to me,” Spires said. “I know the pride that comes with being a Falcon, and I am looking forward to working alongside our students, teachers, staff, families and community to build on the great things already happening at Northwood. Our students deserve an outstanding school year, and that will be our focus every single day.”

Focus on academic excellence and tradition

District leaders emphasized that the priority under Spires’ interim leadership will be maintaining the high standards that Northwood families have come to expect. Burton added, “Our priority is making sure students continue to have an excellent experience, with great teaching, high expectations, strong traditions and every opportunity to succeed. I have every confidence in Mr. Spires and in the Northwood team as they continue moving the school forward.”

The appointment comes at a time when many families in the Shreveport area are seeking stability in education amid broader societal changes. By selecting a leader who already knows the school’s culture, the district aims to reassure parents that Northwood will remain a beacon of academic rigor and moral grounding.

What’s next for Northwood High?

Spire will assume his duties immediately, overseeing day‑to‑day operations, curriculum initiatives, and community outreach. The district has indicated that a permanent principal will be selected after a thorough search, but Spires’ interim role is expected to provide continuity while the school explores long‑term options.

Parents and community members are encouraged to attend upcoming town‑hall meetings scheduled for early October, where Spires will outline his vision for the upcoming school year and answer questions from families.

Northwood High School, known for its strong athletics program and academic achievements, continues to serve as a cornerstone of the Falcon community. With a leader who embodies the school’s values, families can look forward to another year of growth, learning, and pride.
