Northwest Side bakery shut after rain causes ceiling damage and floor flooding

Sweet Cheeks Bake Shop, a family‑run bakery on the Northwest Side of San Antonio, announced it will remain closed after heavy rain this week caused water to pour into the shop. Photos and video shared with KSAT show water pooling near the storefront windows and ceiling tiles that have been soaked and warped.

Roof leak forces temporary shutdown

In an Instagram story the bakery explained that the water intrusion is the result of an ongoing roof problem that the landlord or property‑management company must fix. “Unfortunately, the water intrusion is still ongoing this morning and conditions are just as bad as yesterday,” the shop told KSAT. “We are remaining closed today because we cannot safely operate under these conditions.”

The owner said the decision to stay closed was made to protect staff and customers. “We cannot safely operate under these conditions,” the statement read, emphasizing the need for a safe environment before any reopening.

Impact on a small‑business family

As a small, locally‑owned bakery, each lost day hits the bottom line hard. Sweet Cheeks noted that employees, pending customer orders, and inventory have already been affected for the week. “As a small business, every day we are forced to close has a significant impact,” the bakery said.

Despite the setback, the owner expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of community assistance. “We’re incredibly thankful for our community. So many people have reached out asking how they can help, and that support has meant so much to us,” the statement added.

Next steps and timeline

The bakery said it is unclear whether it will be able to reopen on Saturday. Reopening will depend on the landlord or property manager addressing the roof leak and ensuring the space is safe for both staff and patrons. No specific repair timeline was provided.

Local residents who wish to support Sweet Cheeks during the closure are encouraged to spread the word, place advance orders for when the shop reopens, or consider donating supplies to help offset the unexpected costs of repairs.

Location

Sweet Cheeks Bake Shop is located at 6019 Callaghan Road, San Antonio, Texas.
