Tom O’Connell, a Northern Kentucky man, is inspiring others with his story of overcoming a stroke he suffered at the age of 9. Despite losing the use of the right side of his body, O’Connell went on to build a successful career as an accountant, marry his wife, raise two children, and become a proud grandfather.
Cherish the Challenge
O’Connell’s memoir, ‘Cherish the Challenge,’ is a 305-page book that he spent four years writing one keystroke at a time using a single finger on his left hand. The book reflects on his experiences, sharing stories from his childhood, the love and support of his family, and the lessons he learned along the way.
O’Connell hopes that his book will encourage readers to look beyond their hardships and appreciate the opportunities that can come from them. ‘I’d like people to get out of it that nothing is impossible and that nothing is that bad,’ he said. ‘People who are kind of sad … will read this book and say, ‘It’s not that bad.”
‘Cherish the Challenge’ is available at Barnes & Noble in Florence, Kentucky, and through online retailers.
