North Side Restaurant Reopens After Addressing Health Violations

A Vietnamese and Thai restaurant located on the north side of San Antonio has reopened its doors after being temporarily shut down by Metro Health due to pest-related health violations. The restaurant, situated at 7212 Blanco, was initially closed on May 11 after inspectors discovered an infestation, which accounted for a third of the restaurant’s health violations, according to inspection records reviewed by KSAT Investigates.

Paula, who manages the restaurant, expressed her shock at the inspection results, noting that she was not present on the day the violations were discovered. She stated, “A lot of customers got upset that we closed down because they missed the food.” To address the issues and prevent future closures, Paula has made changes in the kitchen, including hiring a professional chef. She emphasized that customer safety is a priority for the restaurant.

Metro Health confirmed that the restaurant was permitted to reopen on May 22 after taking necessary corrective actions. KSAT visited the restaurant on June 3 to observe the improvements made. During the inspection, dead and live pests were found in various areas of the kitchen, including a soup ladle and cooked rice. Paula assured that steps have been taken to ensure such issues do not recur.

Community Impact and Response

The temporary closure of the restaurant highlights the importance of maintaining health standards in local eateries to ensure the safety and satisfaction of customers. The incident serves as a reminder for other local businesses to adhere to health regulations and prioritize cleanliness in their operations.

In the broader context of San Antonio’s dining scene, other establishments have maintained high health standards, with several achieving perfect scores in recent inspections. This includes Mario’s Bakery, The Original Blanco Cafe, and others, which have all received a score of 100, reflecting their commitment to customer safety and quality service.
