A 47-year-old New Jersey man, Paul Thomas Soltys, was arrested at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) on Tuesday after an argument over smoking outside Terminal 3 escalated into a battery incident, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO).
The incident occurred when a taxi employee told Soltys that he couldn’t smoke near the taxis, which caused Soltys to become agitated and start yelling. The situation further deteriorated when Soltys allegedly grabbed the employee’s arm and threatened him.
Upon searching Soltys’ personal items and luggage, the deputy found a clear plastic tube containing trace amounts of cocaine or cocaine base, as well as a baggie containing six pills of Oxycodone.
Soltys, of Sicklerville, N.J., was taken into custody and charged with battery, possession of cocaine, and possession of Oxycodone.
