The new ‘Supergirl’ movie has been released, and it’s a unique interpretation of the classic DC Comics character. For the first time in 42 years, Superman’s cousin gets her own movie. The film follows Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl, as she navigates her life on Earth and her Kryptonian heritage.
The Story
Kara, played by Milly Alcock, is a complex character who is still trying to find her place in the world. She’s not as enamored with Earth as Superman is, mainly because she was a teenager when her father sent her away from their home planet of Krypton. She remembers her life before Earth, her people, her family, and what it was like to watch them die. This backstory makes her a more nuanced and relatable character.
The movie takes a darker tone than its predecessor, exploring themes of loss and grief. Kara’s journey is not just about becoming a hero, but also about finding a sense of belonging and purpose. The film’s action scenes are intense and well-choreographed, making it an entertaining watch.
The Cast
The casting of Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El is a great choice. She brings a sense of depth and emotion to the character, making her more than just a superhero. The supporting cast, however, is not given much to work with. The villain, Krem, played by Matthias Schoenaerts, is one-dimensional and lacks the complexity of Kara’s character.
The addition of the character Lobo, played by Jason Momoa, is an interesting one. While Momoa does a great job bringing the character to life, his introduction feels forced and doesn’t add much to the plot. It’s a shame, as Lobo is a fascinating character who deserves more screen time.
