Cervical cancer, once a major cause of death among women, has seen a dramatic decline in fatalities due to advancements in screening methods like pap smears and HPV testing, which detect cancer or early signs of its development.
New Screening Method
A new self-test now offers women a convenient alternative. Using a vaginal swab, women can collect a sample and send it to a laboratory for HPV testing. This method does not require a pelvic examination and is highly accurate compared to tests conducted in a health care provider’s office.
According to Dr. Barry Ramo, “This new approach to screening is going to have a dramatic effect on increasing the number of women who delay getting tested, or not getting tested at all.”
