New Mexico vehicle registration fees will increase by 25% beginning July 1, 2026. The last fee increase was in 2004. According to Taxation and Revenue Secretary Stephanie Schardin Clarke, the increase is strategic to improve road conditions around the state.
Fee Increase Details
Current passenger vehicle registration fees range from $21 to $56. Fees will increase to between $26 to $70 per year. The increased fees will generate about $70 million for essential road maintenance via the State Road Fund.
Those who renew their vehicle registrations online at the New Mexico Motor Vehicle Department website will receive a 5% discount.
