Kinokuniya, a Japanese retailer, will open a new location in Rice Village, Houston, this fall. The store will offer a wide variety of Japanese books, magazines, and stationery, including manga, graphic novels, art and design books, cookbooks, travel books, and children’s books.
Store Details
The 5,582-square-foot location was formerly Village Fitness and is expected to open in fall 2026. Kinokuniya is one of Japan’s oldest retailers and will turn 100 next year. The new store will be located at 2369 Rice Blvd., Houston.
According to NewQuest, the deal was made in an off-market leasing coup after a vacancy at Rice Village. Kinokuniya typically has just one store per city, but the Katy location is doing particularly well, so they wanted another one, said Heather Nguyen, managing director and executive vice president of Houston-based NewQuest.
