New Haven residents can now accurately find their state legislators using the updated ‘Find Your Legislator’ database. The update comes after the New Haven Independent reported that at least 432 addresses had been assigned to the wrong state assembly district for the past two state election cycles.
Background
The error affected at least 744 voters, according to data compiled by the Secretary of the State’s office. The New Haven Registrar of Voters’ office had quietly corrected the mistakes at a local level before May 30, but state offices, elected officials, and campaigning candidates had already built their own systems based on inaccurate voter databases.
State representative candidates in the 92nd and 97th District primary elections have updated their mailing lists to reflect the correct districts. Justin Farmer, a candidate in the 92nd District race, created a public, accurate, interactive district map for residents to confirm their state assembly districts.
The Registrar of Voters does not yet appear to have notified voters of the errors, but the office intends to mail notices to every address that changed state assembly districts after 2021.
