Dillon Gains Labor Endorsements

State Rep. Pat Dillon announced two more endorsements for her reelection campaign on Friday — this time from the labor unions SEIU 1199 and 32BJ SEIU. These endorsements mark the latest that Dillon has rolled out in recent days in the runup to a contested three-way Democratic primary on Aug. 11.

Endorsements

SEIU State Council Executive Director Corey Geisman wrote in a July 8 endorsement letter, ‘You have a proven track record of fighting for workers and their families, and we are proud to stand by your side this election cycle.’ SEIU represents more than 65,000 members across the state, including healthcare providers, educators, janitors, security guards, and state employees.

SEIU 32BJ CT Political Director Eimy Martinez wrote in a separate endorsement email, dated July 9, ‘We’re excited to stand with your campaign and look forward to mobilizing 32BJ members in the weeks leading up to the August 11 primary to help connect with voters in your district.’ Dillon can use the official 32BJ logo now that she’s secured their endorsements.

Primary Election

The endorsement comes less than three weeks before she is set to face challengers Eli Sabin and Justin Farmer in the Aug. 11 Democratic primary for the 92nd General Assembly District seat. That district covers parts of Amity, Westville, Edgewood, Dwight, and the Hill.

Dillon — a 21-term incumbent, deputy majority leader, and House chair of the Health Subcommittee of the state legislature’s Appropriations Committee — has already been endorsed by the local Democratic Party, the CT AFL-CIO, the Sierra Club, and Planned Parenthood Votes! Connecticut.

Dillon’s campaign noted her work to prevent the privatization of the Connecticut Mental Health Center. ‘Understanding the vital role the center plays in providing care to some of New Haven’s most vulnerable residents, particularly within the Hispanic community, Dillon worked alongside healthcare workers, labor leaders, and community advocates to protect access to critical services,’ the press release states.

‘I have always believed that when workers have a seat at the table, our communities are stronger and our economy is fairer,’ Dillon is quoted as saying. ‘I am proud to stand with SEIU members and their families, and I am deeply grateful for their trust, their partnership, and their support.’
