A new coffee shop has opened in the historic downtown Shawnee building at 11217 Johnson Drive. Current State Coffee Roasters, owned by Nick Robertson, David Weber, and Josh Greenlee, offers a variety of traditional and specialty coffee drinks, including pour-over options for seasoned coffee drinkers.
Menu and Atmosphere
The menu features items like hazelnut lattes made with fresh roasted hazelnuts and caffe nico, an orange latte dusted with Vietnamese cinnamon. The shop also serves house-made limeade, made with fresh-squeezed lime juice, which has already proven popular among customers. The owners aim to keep the food offerings minimal, with a focus on coffee and a selection of pastries from local bakeries.
The shop’s motto, ‘drink in the now,’ reflects the owners’ desire to create a space where customers can focus on the moment and enjoy their coffee. As both a cafe and a roasting facility, Current State Coffee Roasters also offers an educational component, allowing customers to learn more about coffee and its preparation.
Local Roots
For owner David Weber, a Shawnee resident, creating a meaningful space for his community and family has been exciting. ‘Living in Shawnee, having kids in elementary school here, being integrated in the community, I just think it’s really exciting that I get to facilitate and create a space for neighbors and friends and my kids to bring their friends to,’ he said.
