A person was injured and another taken into custody following a shooting involving a New Britain police officer, officials said. Around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, New Britain officers received information on suspects connected to an earlier shots-fired incident in the Union Street area.
An officer then found one of the suspects matching the description near the Red Roof Inn, walking with another man. Detectives in the area tried to stop both of them, but they ran away, according to officials.
The suspects were pursued to the parking lot of 1 Herald Square, and an officer-involved shooting happened, officials said. One of the individuals was injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition is not known at this time.
Officials said a gun was found in the “immediate vicinity” of one of the individuals, and a second gun was recovered from the other person after he was taken into custody. No officers or other civilians were injured in the shooting, officials said.
The Office of the Inspector General, along with the Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crimes Squad, is investigating the shooting.
