The Animal Rescue League’s Dog’s Day Out program is free during June, thanks to a partnership with Hartz Loving Paws and Greater Good Charities. This program provides dogs with a fun day outside the shelter, and it’s available at ARL Main and ARL Animal Services locations.
How to Participate
To participate, sign up for an appointment on the ARL’s website, and staff will pair you with a dog based on specific criteria. Basic supplies needed to care for the dog during the outing will be provided. The ARL said research shows even a few hours away from the shelter can have positive effects on dogs.
There are some guidelines to follow: you must be at least 18 years old with a driver’s license, you must be able to return the dog to the ARL within 25 minutes at any time during your outing upon request, no resident pets are allowed to join the trip, and no other pets should be present in your home. Additionally, no trips to dog parks are allowed, dogs must be buckled in using a seatbelt provided by the ARL, and you should limit time outside during extreme temperatures.
