New Boston Police Department K-9 Goose is recovering from injuries sustained during the apprehension of a suspect wanted on felony warrants. On July 1, Goose and his handler, Cpl. Parker Harris, assisted the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office in serving a felony warrant on a person who had previously stated they would not return to prison without a confrontation.
As officers attempted to take the suspect into custody, the individual fled on foot and ignored repeated commands to stop. Harris deployed Goose to safely apprehend the suspect after they ran back into the residence. During the apprehension, the suspect attempted to escape by diving through a window. Goose continued to prevent the suspect from fleeing until officers were able to safely take them into custody.
Goose sustained injuries while protecting the officers on scene and preventing the suspect’s escape. He was evaluated by a veterinarian and is expected to make a full recovery. The New Boston Police Department expressed pride in both Cpl. Harris and K-9 Goose for their courage, professionalism, and dedication to protecting officers and the community.
