Phyllis Day, an 87-year-old grandmother with Alzheimer’s, was rescued by her neighbors from a burning home in Wigston, Leicestershire. The fire broke out in the utility room of her home, and neighbors spotted the flames and smoke, rushing to her aid.
Heroic Rescue
Daughter Suzanne Wright was alerted to the fire through a doorbell camera and guided the neighbors to a key box outside, allowing them to enter the house and rescue her mother. Pav Sarpal and Stephan Smart, two of the neighbors, ran into the house to rescue Day, who was asleep upstairs.
The neighbors’ quick thinking and bravery saved Day’s life, and she will now stay with her daughter until her home is repaired. The cause of the fire is believed to be an electrical fault in the kitchen or utility room.
