The National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), Savannah Section, hosted its Pews of Purpose: A Colorful Harambe Celebration of Community Impact fundraiser on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at First Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. The event celebrated community service, leadership, and excellence while highlighting the organization’s four core program areas.
Honorees
During the program, the Savannah Section honored four outstanding women for their exceptional contributions and community impact: Dr. Cora Thompson, Dr. Carolyn Eiland, Mrs. Sonya Jackson, and Dr. Shirley B. James.
The afternoon featured the recitation of “The Black Family Pledge” by Dr. Maya Angelou, as well as an original poem, “We See You Savannah Sisters,” presented by Dr. Patricia West. Attendees also enjoyed a brief history of the National Council of Negro Women presented by Dr. Patrice White.
The celebration concluded with a vibrant Parade of Colors, featuring fifteen members of the Savannah Section, each representing a unique color and its significance.
