Tennis legend Martina Navratilova has called for San Jose State University (SJSU) to fire volleyball coach Todd Kress after allegations of misconduct surfaced. Navratilova re-shared a post by U.S. women’s swimming Olympic gold medalist Nancy Hogshead, criticizing the coach and university.
Allegations Against Coach Kress
A former player alleged that Kress attacked her in a hotel room in 1998. The player claimed Kress smeared caramel on her face, held her down, and threatened to turn on the shower. The incident allegedly occurred after a team loss, and the player stated she did not report it at the time due to fear of losing her scholarship.
Fox News Digital obtained emails showing that SJSU officials acknowledged the allegations and apologized to the former player. However, Kress was never suspended and has continued to serve as the head coach of the women’s volleyball team.
Navratilova and Hogshead have spoken out against Kress, with Navratilova stating, ‘Fire his a–!’ and ‘This is truly sickening… this coach should have been fired yesterday!’
SJSU has denied a public records request for documents related to the allegations, citing privacy concerns. The university has not responded to requests for comment.
