The Los Angeles Lakers have signed center Kevon Looney to a one-year contract worth $3.9 million. Looney, 30, is expected to back up newly acquired Walker Kessler after the Lakers traded Deandre Ayton to the Washington Wizards.
Looney spent last season with the New Orleans Pelicans, averaging 2.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 21 games. He previously played for the Golden State Warriors, winning three championships and establishing himself as a reliable rebounder, screener, and interior defender.
The Lakers are also pursuing unrestricted free-agent forward Jonathan Kuminga, Looney’s former teammate in Golden State. Kuminga averaged 12.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists last season with the Warriors and Atlanta Hawks.
